The honesty of Art

    Ingres wanted to establish an art school with the words “DRAWING ACADEMY” on the facade. He declared, “Drawing is the probity of Art”, (a quote Dalí would use in his wonderful study in pencil for Galarina, the portrait in oil of his wife Gala). I think it is barbarous, that is to say, something befitting barbarians, to take drawing off the school curriculum. To draw is to learn to look, to start to understand. As Leonardo said, “È cosa mentale“.
